How CAIRL pricing works

This page explains how CAIRL charges for its services, who pays for what, and which services do not have a price yet. It states no figures. The pricing pages list the current figures.

What a person pays

Identity Point is the Identity Plan each CAIRL account starts on, and it carries no charge. A person can establish and keep a foundational private identity without paying. Payment does not decide whether that identity exists or stays usable.

Identity Plus, Identity Pro and Identity Prime are optional packages. Each one bundles more of what a person already uses, such as a larger storage allowance. None of them is required, and none of them is the reason a person pays. The pricing page for people lists each package and its price.

Individual services for people are meant to be bought on a prepaid pay-as-you-go basis. Buying an individual service that way is not available today.

Storage beyond the allowance included with Identity Point is planned as a prepaid charge. Buying additional storage is not available today.

What a business pays

A business pays for what it uses, from a prepaid balance. The business adds funds to its balance before it receives live results, and each charge comes out of that balance. There is no subscription.

A business pays for two kinds of events:

  • Enrollment. A business pays once for each person the first time that person verifies with that business. Enrollment creates the private link between the person and that business.
  • Verified Access Event. A business pays each time it receives a verified answer about a person, such as whether the person is over a given age, after the person agrees to share it.

Some checks also draw on an outside data source, such as a bank connection. Those checks carry their own charge, and the pricing pages publish an estimated range and a maximum for them.

Businesses with steady volume can choose an agreement other than pay-as-you-go. The business pricing page describes the Metered, Contract and Enterprise agreements.

What a Verified Access Event is

A Verified Access Event is one completed request in which a business receives a verified answer about a person. The answer can cover one claim or several, and each claim has a price on the claims rate sheet. A Verified Access Event costs the sum of its claim prices, with a minimum charge per event.

A business is charged for a Verified Access Event only after the evaluation completes and the charge is recorded. Each event is charged at most once, so retrying the same request does not charge the business twice.

Services that are not yet priced

Some services do not have a price yet. CAIRL does not quote a figure for them until one is set:

  • Checkbox, the component surface for age checks, is in development and not yet priced.
  • CAIRL Phone is not yet available and has no published price.
  • CAIRL Images is not yet available and has no published price.
